Hayward SPX0715BA3 Key, Cover & Handle Assembly (Black) for 2" Vari-Flo Multiport Valves
The Hayward SPX0715BA3 is the OEM key/cover/handle assembly (top lid assembly) for select
Hayward 2" Vari-Flo multiport backwash valves. It restores smooth valve operation and proper sealing when the
original handle, cover, or internal key assembly is worn, cracked, or leaking.
Fits / Compatibility
- Hayward SP0715 2" Vari-Flo multiport valves
- Hayward SP0716 2" Vari-Flo multiport valves
- Commonly used on Hayward sand filter multiport setups (top-mount and select side-mount configurations that use SP0715/SP0716 valve bodies)
Tip: Confirm the valve model from the label on the valve body (SP0715 or SP0716) before ordering, since lids are not universal across Hayward multiport families.
What’s Included
- Valve key & cover (lid) assembly
- Handle/lever (black)
- Internal key/shaft components included with the lid assembly
Important: Many parts diagrams and suppliers list the cover O-ring as a separate item.
If your valve is leaking around the lid, it’s smart to replace the cover O-ring at the same time.
Common Reasons to Replace
- Water leaking from the top of the valve (around the lid)
- Broken handle, worn detent, or difficult-to-turn operation
- Cracked cover or damaged key assembly causing poor sealing between valve positions
Installation Notes
- Shut off power to the pump and relieve filter pressure before opening the valve.
- Note the orientation of the lid/handle position before removal to avoid reassembly mistakes.
- Tighten cover screws evenly in a crisscross pattern to help prevent lid leaks.
- Use a silicone-based pool lubricant on O-rings (never petroleum-based).

Maintenance Tips
- Never change multiport positions while the pump is running—always shut the pump off first.
- If you feel resistance when turning the handle, inspect for debris inside the valve and verify the lid screws are evenly tightened.
- Keep the cover O-ring lightly lubricated to reduce pinching, air leaks, and lid seepage.
- After replacement, run the system and check for drips around the lid and valve ports.
